At the early stages of the appendix, the symptom and pain are often mild. It may include loss of appetite, nausea, and an abnormal feeling. At first, you may not feel pain in the abdomen. However, when time passes, you may also experience abdominal pain.
- During the first stage, you cannot limit the pain to a particular spot. You will experience pain in the area of the small intestine, colon, and appendix.
- You cannot pinpoint the pain, and when asked to people where they feel the pain, they usually say abdominal area.
- After some time, the pain may localize, and you will feel pain in the right lower abdominal area. You may also be able to spot it.
Symptoms of appendicitis
Following are the symptom that you can experience during the appendix:
- Abdominal pain
During the later stage of the appendix it gets inflamed and swollen, which irritates the abdominal walls. This lining in the abdominal area is known as the peritoneum. As a result, you experience sharp pain in the abdomen. Moreover, the intensity of pain increases when the symptoms occur.
However, there are some cases where people have an appendix behind the colon. In this case, people experience pain in the lower back or pelvis.
- Mild fever
There is a high chance that you suffer from mild fever, which generally ranges from 99 to 100.5 degrees. You may also experience the chill. However, if your appendix explodes, it may lead to an increase in the temperature of your fever. The fever can rise higher than 101 degrees, and if your heart rate is also increasing, it means your appendix has ruptured.
- Digestive problem
The appendix can result in vomiting and nausea. You may also experience loss of appetite and not feeling like eating. There is a higher chance that you develop severe diarrhea and constipation. If you cannot pass gas, then it is a sign that you are having total or partial destruction of your bowel. This sign may have a direct relationship with the underlying appendix.
Symptoms of the appendix in children
If you suspect that your child is going through an appendix, you should rush to the hospital. Children are not able to express themselves correctly. They are often unable to pinpoint the exact area of the pain; they may point to the whole abdomen. Due to this, it isn’t easy to judge if it is because of the appendix or not.
In children, you can mistake it for urinary tract infections and stomach bugs. However, it is always advisable to be preventive when it comes to the appendix. If, by any chance, the appendix ruptures, it can cause severe issues. The risk of such a condition is worse in toddlers and infants; it may lead to death.
Conclusion
If you are experiencing pain for several days in the lower right abdomen, you should consult a doctor. However, you can treat mild abdominal pain at home only. Take precautionary to control it when you have time. Try changing your diet and lifestyle to improve the condition. Avoid ibuprofen and aspirin when irritation in the stomach may worsen the condition.
