Under surgical pathology, surgeon does biopsy of the diseased tissues. The pathologist makes on-spot diagnosis of the disease during surgery itself in order to assist the surgeon to take spontaneous decisions.
On the basis of lab evaluations and reports, a pathologist helps in diagnosing infectious diseases and confirms their cause and outbreak. RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) in Covid – 19 has been an apt example where our pathologist led by example.
