When the function of β-cells in the pancreas slows down or gets damaged, resistance to insulin occurs, then pre-diabetes or diabetes begins. Vitamin D deficiency is one of the main reason of diabetes along with many others. The blood level of vitamin D should always be normal. So every six months blood test for Vitamin D should be done, if it is low then the following measures should be taken,
- Take vitamin D injections or tablets as per doctor’s advice
- Sitting/walking in the sun before 11 am or after 5 pm with minimum clothes.
- If you are a non-vegetarian, eat a whole egg every day.
- If you are a vegetarian, you should include the following food items in your daily diet, poppy seeds, ragi, amaranth seeds and amaranth vegetables, maize, mushrooms,sprouts and pulses, pomegranate, mango, blackberries, sesame seeds, etc.
